Redescape is an interactive mirror with the format 1: 2. If the viewer stands in front of the mirror, its movements are detected by a webcam. An area on the mirror is marked in red. If the viewer moves from this area, the red area changes to another location. The challenge is to escape the red again and again. At the same time, the body is playfully stressed.
The Design
Modest 2400 round and square pixels in various sizes are enough to create a reflection of the observer. Different filters that change to red create the mirror image to different whites. Mostly, only the silhouette of the viewer is shown, since the pixels are often displayed in only two different ways. We limited ourselves to the colors red, black and white. This gives the mirror its special and abstract design.
The Technology
We programmed Redescape with JavaScript using CSS and the Physics library. About the WebCam you can read out some values, including the brightness of individual pixels. If the brightness of certain pixels changes, that means something is moving there. If the change in the red area is small, but strong in the black, white area, the mirror knows that the viewer has left the red area.
